I have been expounding at length about the Jadic to my near-anarchist
libertarian friends. Those royalty checks should start showing up soon!

Seriously, it will be no surprise that I disagree with your comment "there
is no such thing as a freedom to measure." This is a
philosophical/political issue, and such a broad axiom is subject to much
debate.

However, I do not think we really have a practical disagreement. I noted a
week or so ago that I would have heartburn over "undefining" the IFP units,
due to the potential for fraud. For similar reasons, I am not so foolish as
to suggest that anyone should be able to define SI units as they please.

We may disagree on the methodology for metricating the USA, but I think we
agree on the need for universally-accepted fundamental units of measure.

P.S. Maybe I need to hone my sense of humor -- I did post an email joking
about anyone defining any unit as they please. It was not intended to be
taken seriously.
