In response to [USMA:17990] and [USMA:17998]...

Gentlemen, I suggest that it would be more polite to consider that
others may not be in a position to upgrade as you suggest to newer and
fancier computers, connections, and programs. I know of very little that
is said here which cannot be said in plain text, especially by using the
common workarounds (such as using "u" as the symbol for "micro"). I
consider it only good manners to consider the feelings and unknown
circumstances of others on this list.

I, too, am often annoyed with the prolific forwarding of barely
interesting web pages, many of which have pop-up panels, cookies, and
goodness know what else. I would prefer a simple text that forwards the
link which I can then open or ignore as I choose, based on the sender's
introductory words describing the link. When I consider the
inconvenience this flood of unwanted material causes me with my fairly
powerful computer and continuous connection via cable modem, I shudder
to think of what it must be like for those with smaller, slower
computers and slow, dial-up modems. Having all this forced on us is
rude, in my opinion, especially since pleas to cease and desist have
already been made.

I encourage those who feel they need a sledgehammer to drive in a
thumbtack of a point to reconsider what this list is about. Let's keep
it simple. And let's keep the tone of "voice" light. KISS

Jim
