2002-02-06 I wasn't suggesting an upgrade to a newer and fancier computer. Many older computers are upgradable simply by installing bigger hard drives and more memory. We were able to upgrade some of the work computers with minimal cost just by doing some simple upgrades. We even took advantage of the FREE programs, such as Internet Explorer 6 and Outlook Express 6. Even Netscape 6 is FREE.
There are a lot of second-hand computer shops that sell parts and older systems cheap. Even new hard drives can be bought for under 100 +ACQ-, if one wanted to go for a new one. Even if the old system isn't up-gradable, there are cheap bare-bones systems that can be bought for under 300 +ACQ-. There is no reason some type of upgrade can not be performed. Even if someone won't upgrade, there are still other alternatives. Such as getting a FREE Yahoo account and using it strictly for the list-server. The account gives you a 4 MB mailbox. It is easy to access and HTML friendly, and did I say FREE? I'm dying though to hear what excuse will be given for not opening a FREE Yahoo account. I get about 50+- emails a day, about 60 +ACU- of them HTML advertisements. I have a slow internet connection and they don't bother me. But, I often wonder how frustrating receiving hundreds of HTML e-mail ads a week must be to those that have out-dated software. I can't believe that my once-every-so-often HTML postings really makes that much of a difference compared to the hundreds of others. John ----- Original Message ----- From: +ACI-James R. I know of very little that +AD4- is said here which cannot be said in plain text, especially by using the +AD4- common workarounds (such as using +ACI-u+ACI- as the symbol for ++ACI-micro+ACI-). I +AD4- consider it only good manners to consider the feelings and unknown +AD4- circumstances of others on this list. +AD4- +AD4- I, too, am often annoyed with the prolific forwarding of barely +AD4- interesting web pages, many of which have pop-up panels, cookies, and +AD4- goodness know what else. I would prefer a simple text that forwards the +AD4- link which I can then open or ignore as I choose, based on the sender's +AD4- introductory words describing the link. When I consider the +AD4- inconvenience this flood of unwanted material causes me with my fairly +AD4- powerful computer and continuous connection via cable modem, I shudder +AD4- to think of what it must be like for those with smaller, slower +AD4- computers and slow, dial-up modems. Having all this forced on us is +AD4- rude, in my opinion, especially since pleas to cease and desist have +AD4- already been made. +AD4- +AD4- I encourage those who feel they need a sledgehammer to drive in a +AD4- thumbtack of a point to reconsider what this list is about. Let's keep +AD4- it simple. And let's keep the tone of +ACI-voice+ACI- light. KISS +AD4- +AD4- Jim +AD4- +AD4- -- +AD4- Metric Methods(SM) +ACI-Don't be late to metricate+ACEAIg- +AD4- James R.
