Ahhh, success! The IOC site has the best infomration yet. Their home
page is
   http://www.olympic.org/
and a link on there, "Sports", leads to
   http://www.olympic.org/uk/sports/index_uk.asp
The "Learn more" link leads to a general page on the sport; by clicking
on a specific sport one gets to
   http://www.olympic.org/uk/sports/flash/index_uk.asp
and by opening one of the sports listed, a flash window opens that
provides animated descriptions of the sports. Or you can just go to the
last link listed.

The presentation is generally very good, once one remembers that a space
between numbers and units are not required. However, speeds are
generally given with unit symbols "kph". I also saw a "kpm" and a "kmp";
those I took to be typos.
