2002-02-10   An editorial appeared in Today's Cleveland Plain Dealer.  The author is Tom Brazaitis, senior editor in The plain Dealer's Washington bureau.  The editorial is entitled: Is America's greatness real or imagined?  My first thought when I read the editorial, was it was going to be one of those "pat ourselves on the back propaganda" editorials, but it was not.   What caught my attention more than anything else was the first 2 paragraphs concerning C-SPAN.  I will print them here:         Anyone who wants to take the pulse of this nation would do well to tune into C-SPAN, the TV cable public affairs network, any morning between 07:00 and 10:00 h, to hear America talking.   Only on C-SPAN would you hear a discussion like the one initiated recently by Brian Lamb, the network founder, when he asked the viewing audience, "Is the United States the greatest nation on earth?"         I wonder!  How can we get Brian to ask the audience about the metric system?  I think this would at least give us an idea on how Americans really think about metric and what kind of battle we will have to fight to get the change to happen.  They even have people call in to voice their opinions.   Anyone familiar with this program?  I don't watch much TV, and I never saw this program before.  Any ideas on how we can get the metric question posed.  Anyone think it is worth an effort?   John   P.S.  Anyone who wants a copy of the whole editorial may want to contact Tom at: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
