Given that campaigning for this year's gubernatorial election is underway, I'm not sure what priority, if any, Gray Davis will give to this. However, it's encouraging to see that those of us on the USMA list server and/or in the U.S. Metric Association are not the only ones pressing for change. I applaud such actions and would like to encourage further changes in our state concerning the metric system. For many reasons, I think it would be wise if our state had a plan of action, and a deadline concerning changing to the metric system. I would also like to suggest that by the end of the year 2005, DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) begin using meters and kilograms for height and weight on all drivers license and identification cards. Such a change by DMV should not add any significant cost to the DMV budget, but more importantly would help Californians become more aware and identify with the inevitable change that will happen.
