Let's just hope so! Now, what is going to be done to bring all of the
traders, who like these 5 never changed their scales, into compliance? From
what I understand, there are about 30 % of the scales that still need
converting. The DTI was waiting for a clear sign before they went after the
rest. What is going to be done to bring the renegades into compliance?

And if they do manage to get a hearing by the House of Lords, will this
create another delay in finishing the job?

And what can happen to the traders like Thoburn who go back to their stalls
and continue to sell with illegal scales? Can they be prosecuted again?

John

I think the Government have too big a majority in the House of commons for
the House of Lords to successfully overturn the amendments!!

no prosecutions had ever been brought for disobeying the new amendments!!
However, since then, there have been quite a few!! There were four other
traders, as you were probably aware, in court with them today, two from
London and two from Cornwall, who had been prosecuted under the same
legislation!!
