We are rapidly approaching the bicentenial of the arrival of the first meter standard (artifact) in the United States. It came to us in 1805 and shortly thereafter the first coastal survey of the U.S. was performed using this meter as the reference. Now, what are we going to do to use this bicentenial to build a grass-roots enthusiasm for metrication -- at least for acceptance of metric-only labeling under the FPLA?
