I am giving an update to a post given at the beginning of the year. I found that I can obtain the golden dollar coin at the local bank. I have been spending them at various locations with no problem. However, some vending machines do not take them. All of the stores do take them. Also, I read that all Chicago parking meters now take the coins. To fans of the coin I have one recommendation: Go to the bank and get some, then spend them like you would a paper one dollar bill. The bottom line: use it or lose it.
