I happen to think that this would actually set us back by diluting the
effort to go right to meters. That's just a personal opinion, of course.

My impression from watching the and participating in the UKMA mail list
is that they are actually almost there. They have perhaps another year
of letting the dust settle, tidying up the expected court battles, and
whatnot and then I anticipate that the roadways will be metricated in
short order. The pint in the pub will probably survive, but the roadways
must change, especially with the advent of the chunnel and the increase
in international drivers.
