Just back from business in S. California, specifically a conference in Ventura. Wandering next door to a Von's supermarket one evening, I noticed all the liquor labeled with "Price per Litre" tags on the shelves (note "Litre" spelling).
Some of the wine was also labeled "Price per Litre", while some was labeled "Price per Ounce". I don't know whether this means Von's is changing, but I saw the same thing at at least one other Von's in the S. California area. Maybe Bill has seen this in Northern Calif? Nat PS I also noticed 500 ml 7-up and Dr. Pepper.
