Anything written for NCTM journals must go to reviewers and editorial panels
before getting published. Other options can be explored here in Reston.
I'll discuss it with the staff.

Dear Sandy,

Here is another indication that metric-only labeling is on the horizon.

Cesar Luis da Silva (of Brazil), Chairman of the Legal Metrology Working
Group (LMWG) of the Interamerican Metrology System (SIM) conducted a
workshop on Packaging and Labeling in Miami on December 9 & 10.

Among ten agreements, "The LMWG agreed to: ... -encourage exclusive use of
the SI System for package labeling. ..."

Source: National Institute of Standards and Technology, OWM Newsletter
dated 2002 February; <www.nist.gov/owm>

When fully implemented, this will mean metric-only package labels from
Alaska to the southern tip of South America.

SI is the future environment of measurements our children will encounter.

Why not teach SI for the benefit of our children and grandchildren rather
than teach our own comfortable ounces, pints and pounds of the past?

What is the status of the article I wrote for a journal of the NCTM?

I would be satisfied if it is published as an NCTM notice, brochure,
flyer, or other vehicle of wide distribution to teachers of measurements
rather than in a more formal NCTM Journal. Is that an appealing option?
