I see no reasonable reason for this fixation with (excuse me for saying it this way, but I don't want it to sound it offensive or disrespectful) "speech laziness". Especially, certainly NEVER the "p" thing. We should get more accustommed with saying things as they are. If it's km/l let's just call it as it is, kilometers per liter or kilometers a liter, if km/h, kilometers per hour or kilometers an hour.
