I just happened to look more closely at John's last name and making a connection with the previous thread, that the oe is really the �, and thus the name would be W�lflein (or more proper W�lfchen), meaning little wolves in German. I guess substituting the umlauts with the e is more prevalent when rendering German words in English or for English readers. There is no need to do this in German itself.
