Subject: Policy on SI

Dear Sandy,

Preference for SI is already official policy of the United States:

"It is therefore the declared policy of the United States -
(1) to designate the metric system of measurement as the preferred system
.. for United States trade and commerce. (2) ..."

Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1998 (15 U.S. Code 205b, Sec. 3),
quoted at <www.gpo.gov> in the Federal Register Notice, fr28jy98N.

"metric system of measurement" is defined as the International System of
Units (SI) in the Metric Conversion Act of 1975.

I'll continue our discussion later of a proposed article in SI format
of examples from the WLME and NCTN Standards 2000.
