It is usual to rate machines by their fuel consumption, the less the
better.  This applies to lawn mowers, locomotives, airplanes and ships.  In
the English-speaking world automobiles have been rated by their fuel
performance, the more thae better.  In the rest of the world cars are
frequently rated by their fuel consumption, with a range of values
typically from 4.0 to 20.0 L/100 km.  The same range of values could also
be expressed as 0.040 to 0.200 mL/km, or 40 to 200 L/Mm.
