WOMAN IN EIGHTH WEEK OF
PREGNANCY CARRIES CLONED FETUS
According to the magazine "New Scientist," Italian gynaecologist Severino Antinori announced the first reported pregnancy of a cloned foetus at a scientific conference in the Arab Emirates. "From thousands of infertile couples enrolled in the program, one woman has become pregnant and is now in her eighth week of pregnancy." said Dr. Antinori. His program of human reproductive cloning was announced last year by both Dr. Antinori and the American gynaecologist, Dr. Zavos. This is the first time, however, that a clone, has been transferred into a woman's uterus. Although Dr. Antinori's office does not confirm the report, it goes on to say, "We will know for sure in about two weeks." |
