It is refreshing to know that some people in Utah who are undoubtedly
morally and politically "conservative" also support SI. I am really glad
to know that, and somewhat surprised as well. I think that the prevailing
attitude with the Republican contingent in this county would be that USA
traditional values have been well supported by the old measurement system,
and that there is no reason to change it. But I don't know this for sure,
because no one has done a survey and I haven't asked around. In
California, I think that people who are in favor of new government programs
designed to promote public welfare are generally Democrats, and those who
want to leave most problems to the market system for solution are
Republicans. Nothing new here. And it is apparent to me that without
government intervention, in fifty years things will be much the same as
they are now. But I hope I am wrong.

There are also those arch-conservatives who think that anyone who disagrees
with them is a one-worlder "enviro". We have who is in a runoff for county
supervisor in November in this county. He says the UN is trying to take
over the education system! I wonder what he thinks of the USMA and SI!
