This has been such an interesting topic of discussion that I had to pitch in with my 2-c worth...
I guess what Wiz means is that unfortunately *proper* SI grammar has apparently NOT filtered its way down to "media people". Theoretically, IF people learn things properly at school there shouldn't be much "variations" of this in how they use it in real life. Now, what happened here is perhaps the real crux of the question. Why is it that these "professionals" (media people) seem to *notably* "not fall in line" with other types of professionals, like scientists, for instance, when it comes to writing SI units? And I'm not talking about "literary stuff", Jim, since there simply cannot be any "literary" value in using 500ml instead of 500 ml, for instance... ;-) (Sure it's difficult for one to argue the harmlessness of such things (500ml), but this kind of stuff just shouldn't happen if folks adhered more to what they're exposed to in the classroom (unless some guys are stubborn types... and/or something is wrong when it comes to teaching SI in the school system, and I'd like to think that the latter is certainly true to a large extent based on my experiences at the college here where I teach...)) Comments anyone?...
