I am glad to see you posting. It is from your web pages that I learned

Ambitious. That would put them ahead of Europe but it still is a worthy
ambition.

The FAA recently switched to using Celsius. They could now mandate
horizontal distances in metres easily. A good safety case can be made
based on the needs of aircrew operating on international flights. The UK
CAA appears to use metres for horizontal distances.
