Awhile back, we discussed this and I proposed that all speedometers have two
scales, one in kilometres per hour, and the other in metres per second.
This way both sides are satisfied.

Right now in the US, we have both MPH and km/h.  There is no reason that
when the MPH is dropped it can't be replaced with m/s markings.  and both
being equal in font size.
