> Of Pat Naughtin > This method firstly names a right angle a 'quad', a short form of > quadrant.
I have not been paying much attention to the discussions on angles. However, I did notice an old road sign the other day that was '1 in 8'. I remarked to a friend how rare it was to see a ratio because UK road signs are almost always shown as %. I think that the UK was behind the rest of Europe in using percentages for gradient road signs. See: http://www.roads.dft.gov.uk/roadsafety/hc/signs05.shtml Note that the ratio is still permitted although the text shows this as '1:5' rather than '1 in 5'. So the ratio was another method of measuring angle which has been dropped in favour of percentage i.e. 100% = a right angle. -- Terry Simpson Human Factors Consultant [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.connected-systems.com Phone: +44 7850 511794
