I think the reason for the above is that most of us recognize that the US government is going to have to spearhead it (as has been the case in Australia, the UK, Canada, and everywhere else), and this takes a level of political will and courage that does not exist in this country today.  (See:  previous posts about Congress only listen to the whiners.)  So, knowing that this is going to be very difficult, we discuss the more esoteric subjects, and claim victory when we see a 500 g box of pasta. 

I agree with what Markus says has to be done.
