I wrote the following message to BBC World as they recently started to show the world weather reports exclusively in SI.
I would encourage other USMA members or people on the list to write a similar note or even a few words showing positive response to the measure. (even if you don't receive/watch BBC World) ========================= Copy of the message to BBC World at [EMAIL PROTECTED] follows: ========================== My name Is Adrian Jadic and together with my family we enjoy BBC World in Arkansas USA through the Canadian satellite provider Bell ExpressVU. We would like to thank your team for the wonderful package they put together. It is really a pleasure to watch BBC World and we hardly watch anything else. It is entirely different from the regular US programming; it has a high degree of professionalism and most importantly, a clear vision on facts. Especially, we would like to welcome the fairly recent decision to show the world weather report including the USA one exclusively in metric units. The metric system has been authorized for use in the USA for a long time now, as defined in US Code Title 15 section 204 and even designated as "preferred" in the sections 205 a&b. Unfortunately, the US media is completely ignoring these federal laws and the Government has failed to enforce them to the extent of proliferating a steady discrimination against a growing portion of the US population that is not familiar with these units. These viewers/listeners/readers may be recent immigrants, temporary workers, and visitors that have been educated outside US hence in metric units. BBC world is by far the only broadcast using metric units for its world weather reports (in US). We feel that this was a wise decision for one that the people who watch BBC World are to begin with, most likely to be familiar with these units, for the other that there is a large choice of weather reports using US customary units on regular cable or Sat TV. To conclude, we would like to thank you again for providing us with this information and to encourage you to take more decisions like that in the future. (Occasionally, there are instances when imperial units are still used on BBC World). And of course, to keep up the great work you are doing. Sincerely, Adrian & family -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Save up to $160 by signing up for NetZero Platinum Internet service. http://www.netzero.net/?refcd=N2P0602NEP8
