Hi Louis, Nice to meet you and know we there are people out there with similar views re the furtherance of metrication. Great web-site too and, as I'm interested in trains too, maybe you have an English version of the article on trains? And amazingly, the picture of you looks very much like me even to the white moustache and style of glasses! My ancestors were French (Huguenots) named Joie, and went to the Belfast region of N.Ireland about 390 years ago.
Well, we share a common interest, Louis, and hope we will be able to see the US Congress make up its mind sooner than later on metrication. It's a great pity it got derailed in the late 70s because of events at the time. My main interest is to be able to sit down and watch excellent TV documentaries made in the US without having to calculate ifp measurements to standard ones all the time - it so distracts from the main theme. I have written to the History Channel in New York about this problem and am waiting for a constructive reply. Also I want to see all computer equipment sold in mm, not inches as at present. Keep up the good work, Louis, and hope to have constructive dialogue with you regarding assisting USA with it's positive steps towards metrication. Excellent analysis, Mike It just happened that I recently published a book (in French) under the title "La grande mtrication" in which I describe how the metric system was generated and spread all over the world - with some resistance in some countries... Of course there is a chapter on UK, one on Commonwealth countries (including Australia) and one on the USA. A part of the content of the book comes from contributions from USMA members' list. You may see some excerpts (in French and English) of the book on my personal web site. BTW, I am 70, and I live back in my home country, France, after a number of years of international experience. I try to do my best to help our American colleagues to succeed in the metrication of their country!
