John, Hundreds of *words* in Oxford English and Webster English are different for nearly identical objects. (flat, lift, lorry, petrol, spanner, etc.) Why waste our resources seeking standard *spellings* while many words in SI are not even uniform in all the languages cited by Bill Potts? Even complete uniformity of SI symbols is not yet achieved world wide. Our focus should be on SI symbols rather than on words and spellings? Gene.
