I'm about half way through Tom Clancy's latest novel, Red Rabbit. I've
noticed that (so far, at least) he uses metric units exclusively in this
book (distances mostly). His main character, a CIA agent working in England
with the British intelligence, uses a shredder to destroy a document by
shredding it into "2 cm by 2 cm pieces."

Makes me wonder how much "feel" for metric Clancy has -- my $100 economy
shredder does a much better job than that. I would think the CIA could
afford better!
