Effectively, it seems quite complex!

BTW, is there a US organization, some kind of a National Library,
from which you can download books of various natures ?

I recently discovered that the Bibliothque Nationale de France
(http://gallica.bnf.fr/ ) makes available to anybody a number of
digitalized books, old or more recent. Their intention is to scan and
digitalize their whole library. You select a title, after a few
seconds you are informed that it is available under TIFF or PDF
format, you just have to use a ftp browser... and wait for a while
if the book is voluminous and your Internet connection not too fast!.

Unfortunately they have very little on metric system.
