As I already announced here and on

  news:news.announce.newgroups
  http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=1032469171.42005%40isc.org

the vote for the new Big8 newsgroup misc.metric-system failed because we
would have needed around 50 more people participating. Did *you* vote?
We have another chance to repeat the vote in around 5 months from now.
We need 100 more YES votes than NO votes, but we had only 64 more (85
YES, 21 NO). How many people subscripe to [EMAIL PROTECTED]?

What exactly is a "board"?

It would already be a big relief if people here were a bit more disciplined
in their contributions. This means in particular:

  - think before you post a message

  - post only if you provide carefully prepared information and references

  - avoid posting just quick single-sentence outbursts of opinions, as
these are unlikely to be of interest to most readers and contribute
    only to cluttering everyone's inbox

  - before refering to something, always make a quick google search
to look for related high-quality web pages and then *include* the URLs
that you find into your message, for example like

       http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html
       http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/Etiquette/

  - always trim down any preceeding message that you quote to the absolutely
necessary minimum and make sure you know how to efficiently trim messages
    with your editor

  - under no circumstances repeat the entire previous message to which you
    reply in your own contribution
