I keep seeing references to quintals, particularly in wine production.
Italy seems fond of using them. A quintal turns out to be defined as 100
kg.

I also see hectolitres used.

When these units get combined with hectare denominators, they are a long
way off SI. If I understand it correctly:

1 quintals per hectare = 100 kg per hectare = 10 g per square metre

1 hectolitre per hectare = 100 litre per hectare = 10 cubic metre per
square kilometre
