Roads = metres and kilometres would probably be accepted. The difficulty
is transition.

Beer = banning the pint would almost certainly not be tolerated. Pub
drinkers are influential voters but might not be the most open to
reason. Permitting the litre might be tolerated.

Milk = affection for doorstep deliveries
