Marcus Berger in USMA 23148, 23156, 23157, 23158, 23173, 23206, 23209
and 23211 argued in favor of rational metric package sizes.
Label requirements vary among the NAFTA countries. Canada requires
that labels should be bilingual, French and English, and that
contents be described in metric units. The US marketplace prefers
English only and may require that contents be described in inch/pound
units. The Mexican market wants Spanish only, and metric units. The
expense of three different labels is trivial; but the expense of
packaging rational metric quantities for Canada and Mexico, and
rational inch-pound quantities for the US market is not trivial. In
most cases the consumer does not notice nor care whether the quantity
is rational, or has three-significant figures.
