What the store clerk told you was his way of blowing you off. He was
probably ignorant on any issue brought to his attention. If not, why is he
doing a no brain job of working in a grocery store?

These are the same clerks who write signs advertising bananas for ".59 cents a pound" (59/100 of one cent) and then getting ticked off at you when you bring to their attention how cheap they are selling them for.
