Dear All:

Whilst my memory is not perfect, I recall that A4 paper in OZ is about 25 per cent cheaper than the letter size in the USA. The interesting thing is the paper weight in OZ is about 5 percent higher than the USA.

But only about 15 percent of the paper consumed in the USA is imported the rest is home grown so to speak. Why would you desire, as a paper manufacturer with a captive local market, to go metric if that opened you up to competition from Finish and Indonesian mills. I am commercially aware enough to know if I can keep out foreign competition it is a lot easier to survive. Congress is voted in by American not foreigners, they are acutely aware of job drain after the example of the clothing industry.

The other question is when is the last time an American on the list ordered A4 paper for normal use. PS I do from Hammermill. It costs me a cent a sheet delivered to my door by courier. I now insist that my class hand all assignments in on A4 paper. So much so that the computer people downstairs are stocking it.

People make what the market demands, what exactly are you demanding as a small market. We have but six degrees of separation from George Bush so we should lead by example.

Ah my rant is over for the day.
