Dear Jim,
Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of this issue; I think that it
is very important as the medical profession should be among the first to
benefit from the simplicity of SI and subsequently be metric leaders in the
community.
This afternoon I had a health assessment at Kaiser. The nurse was pleasant (though it took a half-hour with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol to get the EKG sensors off without causing unimaginable pain), and the doctor friendly and informative.
The fun part was taking weight and height. The balance scale is pounds only, of course (though in the pediatrics section some of them can be flipped over to show kg), and the height measuring thingy was in both cm and ft-in. The woman doing the measuring couldn't figure it out; the inch line was at 11 and she didn't know what that meant. I had to first point out the "5 ft" line and that she had to add it, then pointed out the 180.5 cm measurement and pointed out that this one was a lot easier to understand. We won't discuss the weight part of things, though my doctor did.
The battle continues.
