Extra-Solar travel does demand count of precise timing, in calculation of orbital time in our planetary travel programmes.
Adoption of ks scheme, in the present circumstances might need 'some thinking' since 1000s =0.27777777778h, using 86.4 ks during the'diurnal cycle'; unless orbits have been planned without relation to Earth motions.
I have always been an advocate for using *Decimalisation of the HOUR in relation to Decimalisation of the Arc-angle i.e. One DEGREE*. Thus, 15-degree Hour-Angle shall be 10 kds (ds=decimal seconds). This is likely to be a simpler way to pinposition the space-craft;and specilaly arc-second ratio: 10000:3600 :: 277.8:1 i.e. target resolution shall also be bettered.
Revolutionary France failed in their 'time metrication programme NOT because the *system was not right BUT politico-religious circumstances were against METRICATION*.
Moreso, NO CHANGE on the 'clock dial face'! As far abstaining from Earth for 'rest of one's life' - man is BOUND to leave his EARTHLY possessions, some time in the future - and *during THIS abstanation* the departure is planned and the astronaut BIDS FAREWELL to "Mother Earth" in glory.

For extra-Solar System travel, only the second and multiples thereof would
be necessary. (Submultiples would be required, of course, for certain
measurements.)
However, as we've evolved with an 86.4 ks diurnal cycle, it remains to be
seen how astronauts would adapt to, say, a 100 ks cycle. There's also the
question of whether anyone would want to make a lifelong commitment to being
absent from Mother Earth.
