The hPa is the SI name for the millibar, which was the usual unit used in meteorology. Canada broke with tradition by giving weather reports in kilopascals. Meteorologists are not concerned with which of these three ways of expressing pressure is used because their telegraphic code does not include unit name or decimal point.
