Marcus, Stanley and friends:
It is not my desire to create any confusion; but to link it up. Way back in 1982, I tried to point the need for counting *VERY big and small* quantities for use with multiple and sub-multiples of units in my book: Towards A Unified Technology (1982), I had expressed multiple and submultiples, to prefix Units and Quantities, in powers of 10^5, using the same names (to avoid any duality).
This was basically to avoid the existing confusion between 'million, billion (used in Europe and America)' and to bridge the Indian count *crore (10^5)* frequently used in financial market.
Copy of the book is available with National Physical Laboratory, and Bureau of Indian Standards, New Delhi. I had some communication with Sennators Ted Stevins (Alaska) and Orrion G. Hatch (UTHA) during my last visit to USA in 1985 January; I suppose the books were passed to US Sennate Liberary.
This is a point to ponder, at some stage (if not now).

The use of hecto, for instance, does offer attractive conveniences for >certain applications, like aviation, real estate, grocery shopping and >the likes. Ignoring these advantages would be premature.
More recently we have seen another possible nice potential application >of the 10 to -4 submultiple (even though it doesn't officially exist!) >in the typography business.
Therefore, please allow me to suggest that instead of opposing the use >of such prefixes that we be more accommodating to the needs of some >sectors of our economy and let them use them if need be.
Thank you kindly for listening.

Cordially,
