UK TVs have been described in cm since at least the 80s. The Ferguson
brand was one that gave prominence to the metric size (which is the
more accurate visible diagonal, rather than the nominal tube size).
While it is still included in most ads for TVs (and their packaging),
the inch size is still usually given prominence. This is partly, no
doubt, due to the arrival of domestic PCs with their emphasis on
inches.
