Measuring distance by time is very common in the US. It sounded odd to me
when I first encountered it.

A couple of days ago, I was told that in Turkey they sometimes measure
distance in cigarettes. As in 'they live 3 cigarettes away'.

Well that is usenet for you. However, it was the first time that I
considered that there were might be so many versions of mile.
