2003-03-22 I was in Wal-mart today (but did not buy anything) and was able to look at the round-up product previously mentioned.
Round-up made by Monsanto has its contents declaration as 1.33 gallons (170 fl oz). It also states in bold print that this is 33 % more than the standard gallon size. It shows no declaration in litres, either on the front or the back. On the back, one can find mixing instructions using fl oz only. A competitive product made by Ortho called Weed-B-Gon was packaged in the exact same container as Round-up. The only difference was that the Round-up container was white and the ortho container was a dark green. Ortho also advertised that the container was 33 % larger then the gallon, but it gave the contents as 170 fl oz / 5 L. It did state the size in litres. I did not see any Eliminator products there. In fact I never heard of such a brand. I find it odd that an ad would give the size as 5 L, when one can not find 5 L on the product. Someone had to know that the container was hidden metric and chose to put the 5 L on the ad instead of the 1.33 gallons. Could be a secret supporter. More "metric" packaging. As a follow-up on the rounded metric container of Roundup, I should have looked closer at the Wal-Mart ad, as next to the 5 liter Roundup is a container of Eliminator spray labeled as 1.33 gallons, which is 5 liters. Again, I cannot read the label on the actual container as reproduced in the ad, but it might have a metric quantity on it? Interesting how the Roundup is labeled in ifp and advertised in metric, and this other item appears to be the other way around. Maybe someone can visit Wal-Mart and give a report, or maybe someone has this product? If nothing else, this indicates that the chemical industry is into metric more than they admit.
