Jim Elwell says that no balance has a tare function. Not so. The Triple Beam Ohaus scale here has a tare weight (pardon the expression) which slides on a beam at the rear (no markings).
This works. It is not as convenient as an electric tare but what do you expect on a scale 35 years old.
Interesting! As convenient as tare weight is, I should have expected that someone would have done something along those lines with mechanical scales.
