There SHALL be many places like that in a metric America, I fear---covens of WOMBAT in an SI nation. The biggest will be the US National Football League and the followers of American football on that field of 100 yards.   US metrication will not be just about metrology. It will very much be about the loss of poetry in measurement. And, especially since September 11, 2001, it wil be, more than ever,  about national identity. It might end up that our measurements, as well as our banners, will be seen as making tyranny tremble. Illogical? Of course, this is not logical. This is emotional. That's why my first step in US metrication is inspiration. We must smash the emotion and inculcate common sense. But, will the American people fathom it?
