Yup..I have a Swix unit. It's more for Nordic than Alpine waxing of course, but temperature is important in Alpine as well. Being from the Pacific Northwest though, our winters aren't cold, so it's the same ol' wax every time you go up. Not really much change in temp around here.

In most xc ski resorts there are such thermometers on the wall outside to aid in selecting the proper grip wax. The ones I have seen are in C with small F inside. But they also include broad blue, green, red, and yellow bands to correspond to wax colors, and thus may not be too appealing visually to everyone. They are about 30 cm in diameter.
