I am convinced that you could ask many, if not most, native born Americans about the wonderful measure they seem to be willing to die for and they would be woefully ignorant.
How many know the number of feet or yards in a mile.? How many even know how many feet are in a yard?
My favorite game is this.
"Ok...odometers in cars are calibrated to the 10th of a mile right?"
"Yea."
"Ok....so how many feet are in a 10th of a mile?"
"That's easy...528."
"Ok...now how many feet are in 4/10ths of a mile?"
"Uhhh.....4x528!"
"Uh-huh.....now 4/10th of a kilometer is 400 meters. 6/10ths is 600 meters...and so on. Wanna tell me how many feet are in 6/10ths of a mile?"
"But why would you ever want to do that?"
And the argument goes on.
