Thanks for spotting that.

>Steven Thoburn was dubbed the "Metric Martyr" after being convicted
>and fined for selling bananas in pounds and ounces.

False. This myth has been repeated so many times that it has now become an
urban legend.

>Packaged goods are meanwhile "downsized" on conversion from
>English to metric quantities - with no decrease in price.

This sweeping assertion is lifted straight from the BWMA website. They do
not mention goods that were formerly 1 lb being upsized to 500 g. One fear
is that goods sold as UK pints have been downsized from 568 ml to 500 ml.
Presumably they have warned their American correspondent that goods sold as
US pints will be upsized from 473 ml to 500 ml.

>Surveys show 85% of British people prefers feet and inches, pounds
>and ounces.

Also lifted straight from the BWMA website.

>The archetype kilogram is stored in a vault near Paris
>and the USA requires permission from the French government
>to examine it.

It is a popular myth that because the SI offices are in Paris that it is
controlled French government. It is like saying that because the UN
headquarters are in New York, it is controlled by the US government [no
jokes please].
