Thank you for an excellent source and reply. I found this in the UK CAA
manual:
"The following words may be omitted from transmissions provided that no
confusion or ambiguity may result:
d) 'Millibars' when giving pressure settings of 1000 mbs and above"

It then gives examples:
Pilot: "G-CD maintaining altitude 2500 feet Wessex 998 millibars"
ATC: "G-CD descend to altitude 2000 feet Borton QNH 1000"
