Paul Trusten asked in USMA 26738:

I want to defer to subscribers to this list who are outside the United States, especially Canada and Australia. What was the reaction of carpenters to metrication? To what extent do they agree or disagree with Mr. Owen?

Paul Trusten, R.Ph.

House construction in Canada is resolutely inch-pound. It is not carried out by
university-educated engineers or architects.

Steel-framed commercial buildings are designed and built by universty-trained architects and engineers. It is thoroughly metric (so far as I have able to ascertain). Bricks and asphalt shingles are metric, but the house builders have not noticed that..

I made a more through investigation of the construction industry in Canada some years ago, and I now write from memory.
