You're right about Europe and Australia.  I typically pick up a pack or two
when I am visiting if the suitcase is light.  I remember that A4 very quickly
became the standard size in Australia, displacing quarto and foolscap in what
seemed to be about a week.

I haven't been to many places in central or South America but I saw A4 and US
sizes in Venuzuela and in Costa Rica.  I've been to several Caribbean countries
but didn't pay much attention to paper sizes except that I noticed Aruba and
the British Virgin Islands use mostly US sizes.
