John Mercer asked in USMA 27057

Hello everyone, I have 2 questions. To measure torque values of an engine or torque specs for tightening a bolt what is the S I value? I have seen 2 values the Newton Meter and the metered kilogram. Also is there any standard in S I for clothe sizes? Even between Canada and the U S there is aslight difference in clothe sizes. Thanks again for all your help, I find this site really great and everybody so helpful.

The metre kilogram is not correct; it is in the obsolete metre kilogram(force) second system that was used by European engineers before SI.

Torqus is usually expressed in SI as newton metre, although I prefer the equivalent joules per radian to make the vector quality of torque more evident. Note that in torque the newtons and the metres are are right angles to each other, although that is not evident from the name "newton metre".

The width of cloth is not a matter for SI. it is a question of national commercial standards.
